Celebrating Ten Sunny Years!
We are proud to announce that this fall we are celebrating our ten-year anniversary! Baseline Solar was founded in 2008 with a mission to create a lasting solar legacy and to make our community of Blacksburg and beyond more sustainable. Over the years we have helped hundreds of our friends and neighbors in Southwest Virginia go solar helping them make a positive move for the environment and to save money on energy costs. We've completed more than 150 solar installations with a lifetime energy production of more than two million kilowatt-hours! That amount of clean energy prevented the release of 1,553 tons of carbon dioxide- equivalent to taking 2,976 cars off the road over ten years. We could not have made it to where we are today without the dedication of our employees, and we are excited to announce that we’ve added several new team members who will help us continue to innovate in our field: Eddie Gibson is our Project Manager and Lead Installer, Josh Vaught and Adeshola Oke-Bello are both focusing on installations, Erin Hudgins is responsible for brand communications and Vijay Thornton is our new intern.
As a locally-owned, locally-operated company, it’s been an honor to serve the place that we call home. We appreciate all the enthusiasm and support of our customers over the years- you have played a huge role in our success. We are eager to begin our next chapter and look forward to making even more of a positive difference in our community. Our future is looking bright!
Beer + Sun = Happiness!
Your next beer could be created from solar power! There is a new Brewery coming to Southwest Virginia and we are currently installing a large PV system to help power the building and its brewing operations. Eastern Divide Brewery is currently under construction and when finished will be a 12,000-square-foot-facility located in the Blacksburg Industrial Park. The purpose-built brewery is slated to open in early 2019 and will be getting a little help from the local sunshine!
We are installing a 90-panel array on the brewery roof, capable of producing 31.5-kilowatts of electricity to help to power the lights, kitchen appliances and all the heavy-duty brewing equipment needed to create a delicious microbrew! We have already installed over 600 feet of railings on the brewery’s roof to support the large array, and there are plans to add more railings and panels as the brewery grows.
Going solar is a fast-growing trend for businesses as energy costs continue to rise and controlling these costs is important to sustainability. Using solar energy to brew beer actually makes good business sense- brewing requires a lot of energy, as the kettles and tanks need constant heating. Taking advantage of the unlimited sunlight allows brewers to have a reliable and low-cost source of energy while providing environmental benefits. Eastern Divide Brewery will reap the benefits of solar power for years to come, and that’s a lot of beers to go around. Happy sipping!
